Remarks on memo to Council RE: All American Asphalt Plant from 01/26/2020 Council Meeting

Many concerned constituents have been in touch with Councilmember Larry Agran regarding the continuing operations of the All American Asphalt Plant in the northern part of Irvine.

While the City is responding in a variety of ways, organized residents and their representatives are concerned about the free and open exchange of information that is needed to fully ascertain health risks and determine next steps for residents and the City. They have requested the City host a City Council study session to publicly discuss and address the matter. Larry submitted a memo to his colleagues requesting such a session be called.

On Tuesday, when Councilmember Agran raised the issue at the City Council Meeting, the Mayor indicated she did not want to schedule a study session. Instead, she reiterated her preference to have aggrieved residents meet with the Southern California Air Quality Management District. For details, watch the exchange between Councilmember Agran and Mayor Khan in the enclosed video.
