QuickReads | Community Connection with the Vice Mayor
Over the weekend, we celebrated 23 years of food, art, music, and Irvine's diverse community and culture! Vice Mayor Agran thanks everyone who attended the Irvine Global Village Festival at the Great Park. It's truly amazing to see how this event has evolved over the years. Vice Mayor Agran is proud to have contributed to its journey with the Irvine Multicultural Association at the Lakeview Senior Center to its current home at the Great Park. It brings him great joy to witness our community unite to explore and celebrate the vibrant diversity that makes the City of Irvine unique.
At the August 13th City Council meeting, Herson Go challenged the City Council to a game of Table Tennis. True to his word, Vice Mayor Agran met with Herson, a twenty-eight-year Irvine resident and a member of the 1993 US Open Table Tennis Championship Team, for a friendly game.
Herson wishes for the City of Irvine to capitalize on its already successful Table Tennis program by expanding to more facilities. If residents want to play, they can register for Drop-in Ping Pong at yourirvine.org, which is offered at Turtle Rock Community Center, Las Lomas Community Center, and Northwood Community Center. Vice Mayor Agran appreciates Herson's commendable enthusiasm in promoting the expansion of the Table Tennis program.
Each year, about 25,000 of our friends and family here in Orange County are diagnosed with breast cancer. However, there is HOPE! Vice Mayor Agran participated in the “Pink is Powerful” event, a regional campaign promoting the importance of breast cancer screenings in partnership with the City of Hope, Orange County Health Care Agency, and CalOptima! Seeing all the remarkable work the City of Hope is doing in the fight against cancer is truly uplifting.
