Housing Element Update virtual workshops coming soon

Do you have ideas for how Irvine can meet the housing needs of everyone in the City? The Housing Element Update is underway this month, and residents are being asked to participate in shaping plans and goals for the next eight years.

For background, Irvine, along with all California cities and counties, is required to adequately plan and meet the housing needs of everyone in the community. Although the City does not build the housing, it does identify where the housing should be built, its character, and its affordability in a planning document called the “Housing Element”.

The City is currently updating the Housing Element for the 2021-2029 planning period to meet the housing needs of everyone in our community. All Irvine residents and stakeholders are encouraged to help plan the City’s future housing needs and priorities.

The City is hosting interactive virtual workshops on April 22 and 29 via Zoom. These workshops will provide a detailed overview of the Housing Element and update process, and ask for public comments on various topics including what the Housing Element Update goals should be for the 2021-2029 period. Please note that the meetings are being held in English, but individual meetings can be arranged in other languages. To make these arrangements, please email mchao@cityofirvine.org by April 30.
