QuickReads | Pillow and Pillowcase Drive

The Office of Vice Mayor Larry Agran encourages you to participate in an initiative aimed at supporting the heroes of the 2/11 Marine Battalion as they return home. Our office, in collaboration with the Irvine 2/11 Marine Adoption Committee, is collecting 100 new standard-size bed pillows and pillowcases. Become a part of our pillow-getters' team, and let's show our Marines the warmth of our community. Our "Welcome Home Marines" pillow campaign is currently underway and will continue through April 13th. We encourage you to rally your friends and neighbors to join us in making a significant impact together.

Great Park Construction Update

As the Vice Chair of the Great Park Board, Vice Mayor Agran is delighted to announce that our Great Park is truly taking shape beautifully! The mass grading and site preparation have kicked off in the "Heart of the Park" area, preparing the site before the actual construction. After the underground infrastructure is cleared, the construction of new streets and infrastructure will commence. This section will feature exciting amenities such as the Full-Circle Farm, forestation, a permanent amphitheater, and the realization of the Great Meadow.

The Future is Bright — Youth in Local Government

In recent weeks, Vice Mayor Agran had a great conversation with enthusiastic students curious about his take on City happenings. He also enjoyed attending the Teen Summit, where Irvine high schoolers gathered for a jam-packed day of workshops and development activities. "It's exciting to see young people in our community taking charge and making positive changes; our future depends on the active involvement of our youth in local government!" said Vice Mayor Agran.

Irvine Barclay Theatre

Vice Mayor Agran is proud to be a City-appointed governing board member for the Barclay Theatre. Situated on the University of California Irvine campus, the Barclay Theatre opened in 1990 and has since become a standout venue in California's performing arts scene. This modern theater is a unique partnership between the City of Irvine, the University of California Irvine, and private investors, and it is renowned for its diverse programming in contemporary dance, music, and theater arts.

Round and Round the Great Park Carousel

Did you know the Great Park Carousel underwent renovations and now features vintage-inspired scenic artwork? The carousel has been updated with new artwork by City of Irvine employee and artist Sandra Cisneros, inspired by themes such as the park's military past, recreation and sports grounds, and Irvine's beautiful landscapes. Each panel was painted at home during the 2020 Stay at Home order and transferred to metal panels to withstand SoCal weather changes. We have also repainted 12 animals and the Carousel floor. Take a ride on this beloved Irvine tradition and enjoy the artwork while creating lasting memories with your family and friends!
